Ralph Oberg

Ralph E. Oberg was raised in Colorado and has always loved the wild mountain country and its wildlife. From an early age he knew he wanted to pursue a career in art. He attended Colorado State University on an art scholarship and, after working briefly as a commercial illustrator, began his career as a full time artist. Dissatisfied with his photographic approach, he began to study with many of the great plein air landscape painters and now travels extensively throughout the western wilderness sketching on-site.

 

Oberg's honors include the William E. Weiss Purchase Award in 1988 and the Jurors' Choice Award in 1992 and 1996 at the Buffalo Bill Art Show and Sale. He is a member of the Society of Animal Artists, Northwest Rendezvous Group, and the Plein Air Painters of America. Oberg's work has appeared in articles in Southwest Art, Western Art Collector, Western Art and Architecture, and Art of the West. He has repeatedly shown at the Masters of the American West Autry Museum in Los Angeles, California, and the Prix de West Invitational at the National Cowboy Museum in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. His work is in numerous private and corporate collections.

Oberg lives with his wife, artist Shirley Novak, in southwest Colorado.
