About Kang Cho (1953 - 2021)
Kang Cho was born and raised in Seoul, South Korea, and moved to the United States when he was 16 years old. From a young age, he showed an aptitude for both athletics and artistry. While still in high school, Cho began his formal art education at the American Academy of Art in Chicago, Illinois. Upon graduation from high school, he received a scholarship to attend the American Academy of Art full time.
After earning his associate degree, Cho moved to Denver, Colorado, in 1976 to pursue a career in fine art painting. There, he met William Sharer and Ned Jacob, two artists who became mentors and friends to Cho. He credits both with giving him invaluable help and encouragement to set high goals and standards for his own work.
Over the course of his career, Cho has received the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant as well as the John F. and Anna Lee Stacey Scholarship Fund which is administered by the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum. He has been featured in such publications as Southwest Art, Art of the West, Western Art Digest, Denver Post, and Business Week. To this day, Cho feels his art is a lifelong journey, and he continues to find excitement in learning and discovering the "new" in his work. He paints both outdoors and in his Santa Fe, New Mexico, studio.
