In 2006 the Whitney Gallery of Western Art of the Buffalo Bill Historical Center purchased, with funds from the Mary A. H. Rumsey, “Lower Falls of the Yellowstone,” a stunning painting by Kathy Wipfler. Kathy’s painting currently hangs alongside a painting by Albert Bierstadt of the same subject. Kathy Wipfler has been a serious and dedicated painter since 1979. Living on a working ranch in Jackson Hole provides the opportunity to experience the life of the Wyoming cowboy, which finds its way into much of her current work. Working in oil, and largely on location outdoors, her plein air paintings may be found in many prestigious collections across the country, including the Kriendler Gallery of Contemporary Art at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody, Wyoming. In 2000 Wyoming Governor Jim Geringer presented a print of Wipfler's painting entitled "Wyoming Treasure" to 22 Governors and 3 Canadian Premiers at the annual Western States Governors Conference.
