Ralph Oberg

Ralph E. Oberg was born and raised in Colorado where he spent much of his youth hiking and climbing. From an early age he knew he wanted to pursue a career in art. He attended Colorado State University on an art scholarship and, after working briefly as a commercial illustrator, began his career as a fulltime artist. Dissatisfied with his photographic approach, he began to study with many of the great plein air landscape painters and now travels extensively, sketching on-site the western wilderness. In 1988 Oberg won the William E. Weiss Purchase Award and the Jurors' Choice Award in 1992 and 1996 at the Buffalo Bill Art Show and Sale. He is a member of the Society of Animal Artists and the Plein Air Painters of America. Oberg's work has appeared in Southwest Art and Art of the West and is in numerous private and corporate collections.
