In 1988, Dan Robinson graduated from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. However, for Robinson, his formal education was just the beginning foundation to the ongoing process of developing the craft of fine art. Robinson continues to find inspiration and gather knowledge from several resources. He credits his peers, his extensive art book collection, and the many museum visits he has made as having significant influence on his work. He encountered several in particular who have been willing to share their insights as well as introduce and develop the vocabulary necessary to take the journey of a painter. Artists Dan McCaw, Mark Daily, Clyde Aspevig and Graydon Foulger are often mentioned with thanks and appreciation. To Robinson, both on site and studio painting provide a beneficial and necessary combination of working environments. He believes each situation has its own advantage allowing the artist to filter, select, invent and orchestrate from the emotional as well as the visual motivation that drives him. "It is a priority to paint about something rather than just do a painting of something." It is this intention that provides the artist with the interest to find his own voice. Robinson makes his home in Arizona's Valley of the Sun where he lives with his two children.
